Total War: Warhammer II is a turn-based strategy and real-time tactics game developed by Creative Assembly and published by SEGA. Released in September 2017, it expanded into new territories bringing the continents of Lustria, Ulthuan, Naggaroth, and the Southlands into play. Four new factions compete for control of the Great Vortex: High Elves, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, and Skaven, each with completely new gameplay mechanics.

The Vortex campaign offers a structured narrative with rituals that must be performed to control or destroy the Vortex. Unlike the conquest campaign of the first game, this one has a clear objective and time pressure from competing factions. The Mortal Empires campaign combines both game worlds into a massive mega-map.

The new factions are masterfully implemented. High Elves utilize influence and intrigue, Dark Elves enslave their enemies for bonuses, Lizardmen follow the Great Plan of their gods, and Skaven literally undermine the world from below. The Skaven in particular bring unique mechanics like under-cities and hunger, becoming fan favorites.

Total War: Warhammer II has been supported with dozens of DLCs that continuously expanded the game. It evolved into one of the most popular strategy games ever, with a passionate player base and an active modding scene. The quality of post-release content set new standards for the industry.
