Warhammer: Mark of Chaos is a real-time tactics game developed by Black Hole Entertainment and released in 2006. Set in the Warhammer Fantasy world, the game focuses on large-scale battles between the forces of Order and Chaos without traditional base-building elements. Players command armies in tactical combat where unit positioning, morale, and hero abilities determine victory.
The gameplay emphasizes battlefield tactics over economy management. Players deploy armies composed of infantry, cavalry, war machines, and monsters, then command them in real-time engagements. Units can be ordered into different formations and given specific combat behaviors. Hero characters lead forces with special abilities and can engage enemy heroes in cinematic duels that influence battle outcomes.
Two campaign paths follow the struggles of the Empire and Chaos forces respectively. Empire players defend civilization against the gathering darkness, while Chaos players serve the Dark Gods in their assault on the mortal realm. Each side fields distinct units reflecting their military traditions, from Empire knights and handgunners to Chaos warriors and daemons. Multiplayer enables competitive battles between opposing commanders.
Mark of Chaos brings the spectacle of Warhammer Fantasy tabletop battles to life with detailed unit models and visceral combat. The game's tactical focus without base-building creates a different experience from traditional RTS games, emphasizing army composition and battlefield decisions over economic development.
