Warhammer 40,000: Darktide
2 Ratings
Warhammer 40,000: Darktide brings the visceral cooperative action that Fatshark perfected in the Vermintide series into the grimdark future of the 41st millennium. Set in the hive city of Tertium on the planet Atoma Prime, players take on the role of condemned prisoners conscripted into an Inquisitorial warband to combat a festering Nurgle cult that threatens to corrupt the entire city. The game captures the oppressive atmosphere of an Imperial hive city with stunning detail, from the gothic architecture to the omnipresent smog and decay.
The gameplay builds upon Fatshark's proven formula of first-person melee combat combined with ranged weapons, but expands the scope significantly with larger environments, more enemy variety, and deeper character customization. Players can choose from four distinct classes - Veteran Sharpshooter, Zealot Preacher, Psyker Psykinetic, and Ogryn Skullbreaker - each offering unique abilities and playstyles. The combat is weighty and impactful, whether you're chainsawing through hordes of poxwalkers or picking off distant enemies with a lasgun.
The mission system sends groups of four rejects into various zones of Tertium, battling through factories, hab blocks, cargo facilities, and other iconic Imperial locations. Special enemies like the Plague Ogryn, Mutant, and Daemonhost provide intense challenge moments, while boss encounters test team coordination to the limit. The penances system provides long-term goals for dedicated players, offering cosmetic rewards for completing challenging feats.
Darktide's live service model means the game continues to evolve with new content, classes, and features. The atmosphere stands as one of the game's greatest achievements - the sound design, voice acting, and visual presentation combine to create the most authentic feeling of being a lowly human in the Imperium ever achieved in a video game. For fans of cooperative shooters and the Warhammer 40,000 setting, Darktide offers hundreds of hours of grimdark entertainment.
