Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade is a third-person shooter MMO developed by Behaviour Interactive. Released in 2016, it was an ambitious project that promised massive PvP battles between Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, and Eldar fighting for control of a planet. The reality fell behind the promises.
The gameplay offered third-person shooter action with classes and loadouts. Large battlefields enabled engagements with dozens of players. Various classes—from Tactical Marines to Devastators—fulfilled different roles in the combined arms combat.
Faction asymmetry was notable. Each side played differently: Space Marines were versatile, Chaos had daemonic support, Orks relied on numbers, and Eldar on speed. These differences created interesting dynamics when factions clashed.
Eternal Crusade struggled with technical problems and a shrinking player base. The originally planned persistent territory system was cut, and the release came with significantly reduced scope. Development was effectively discontinued in 2018. It remains a cautionary example of overpromising in game development.
