Space Crusade
Space Crusade is a turn-based tactics game developed by Gremlin Interactive, released in 1992 as a digital adaptation of the board game of the same name. Space Marines infiltrate an alien-infested spaceship, fighting against Orks, Chaos, and other threats. The turn-based gameplay offered tactical depth for its time.
The game concept stayed faithful to the board game. Squads of Marines moved through corridors, opened doors, and fought enemies. Each Marine had limited action points per turn. Missions had various objectives from extermination to retrieval of important items.
Three playable Chapters—Ultramarines, Imperial Fists, and Blood Angels—offered slight differences in abilities. Special weapons like Heavy Bolters and Plasma Guns supplemented the standard Bolters. The alien player was controlled by the computer, creating challenging opposition.
Space Crusade was an important early Warhammer title that brought the tabletop experience to computers. For many players, it served as their first contact with the Warhammer 40K universe and laid groundwork for future digital adaptations.
